WHY CHANGE THE POLITICAL SYSTEM?

Because it's the only way working Americans
will ever have a fighting chance to earn fair pay,
eliminate corrupt politicians, gain control over
the corporate world, establish universal healthcare,
reduce crime, and enjoy a better life!

mericans were deeply divided upon whether to go to war with Iraq or not?" but it was the wrong question to ask, for a "yes" or "no" had little relation to the real problems of our republic and would solve none of them.

What we should have asked ourselves was, "Do we continue to depend upon a political duopoly that ignores the republic's social problems, offers no vision of a better future, and allows those in power to arbitrarily instigate wars and send our boys off to die in those wars? Do we continue to use a corrupt political system that allows some men to squander the wealth of the nation, bankrupt both the federal government and state governments, and place chains of indebtedness upon our children and children's children?"

This site is for you, if you're an American worker tired of the runaround you get from your political "representatives," and are disturbed at the eagerness displayed by the current Administration to utilize brute force and secrecy to handle problems, rather than to seek other choices. For there are other choices.

This site is for you if you know there is something drastically wrong with the American System and realize it isn't the foolishness or stupidity of the river of men flowing through our legislatures causing the republic's mass ignorance, poverty and injustice, but the American System itself.

It's for you if you know the System is biased in favor of wealthy people, and that neither of the two political parties, nor any independent party, offers to change the status quo. It's for you, if you are ready to try true democracy, the only form of governance never truly tried on planet Earth, the only form holding the potential to make any society a fairer and friendlier place for common working people.

he voice of working America is absent from the political arena. More than 50% of the eligible voters, the vast majority of whom are working Americans, don't vote. Why? Because they are disillusioned with a political system that has evolved into nothing more than a popularity contest. And a "fixed" contest, at that. They are apprehensive about the growing political power of corporations and the illogical war into which the puppet president has taken us. They don't know what to do.

Yet, they continue to support the Democratic Party despite knowing it is composed primarily of political opportunists, many of whom no longer truly represent "working America," many of whom regularly prostitute themselves to the causes of the Republican Party, although they know it represents "wealthy America."

To add insult to injury, we're told by the Establishment media that for the cause of "national security" many patriotic Americans are willing to relinquish some of the freedoms our forefathers have given their lives to protect. We're being asked to relinquish freedom to protect freedom. How illogical can they get?

Almost one hundred years ago, in 1905, the preamble of the Industrial Workers of the World, a labor union, stated:

...the working class and the employing class have nothing in common...

It was another way to say that rich people and working people have nothing in common. Yet, according to an Associated Press release in December 2002, "Close to half the incoming members of Congress are millionaires." Imagine, our congressional "representatives" are millionaires and they're expected to represent us and solve our problems. Whose kidding whom?

On this website we make a proposal to initiate a movement to take government away from the powers that abuse it, for we have the numbers to do it, should we be determined.

What would be different about such a movement? For one thing, it would be pledged to attend the basic needs of working and unemployed Americans.

It would be dedicated to giving every American citizen a direct voice in establishing the policies, laws, and values of this country. It would be a political force dedicated to the aims of the 1872 National Labor and Reform Party platform, which stated:

...that it is the duty of the Government to establish a just distribution of capital and labor by providing a purely national circulating medium, based on the faith and resources of the nation, issued directly to the people without the intervention of any system of banking corporations...That the public lands of the United States belong to the people and should not be sold to individuals nor granted to corporations...that we demand the subjugation of the military to the civil authorities, and the confinement of its operation to national purposes alone...

Working Americans, here is the opportunity to transform your many complaints about irresponsive politics and government into positive action. Here is the opportunity to correct many of the American System wrongs.

know that many of you have reservations about poitical parties of any denomination, and some of you believe deeply that common, ignorant citizens are incapable of efficiently initiating and effectively maintaining government. You are, however, constantly being proven wrong by citizens of other countries who incorporate into their political systems such deliberative processes as Citizen Planning Cells created by Professor Peter Dienel of Germany or Citizen Juries advocated by the Jefferson Centre in the U.S. These deliberative systems have shown that unknowing and uneducated people, once informed of the true problems and all the options, can make decisions equally as competent as any legislator, and quite often more competently.

But without winning control of local, state, and federal governments, common Americans will not ever hold the legislative powers to initiate citizen deliberative systems anymore than we have had the power to install initiative and referendum systems within the 50 state or federal governments. And we have been trying for more than 100 years. The only legitimate way to win control is to do it from within the existing political system, which means we need a political party to garner our votes and fuse the greater political force.

Contained on this website is a suggested Constitution and Bylaws for a Direct Democracy Party, and a Platform for the first political convention that is part of the constitution.

If you've ever wanted to shake up the political industry of the United States and change things for the better, this is the way to go.
